Trailer Box Project Kicks off “Holiday Extravaganza” for Charity
One hundred percent of the proceeds to benefit Ann’s Place in Danbury

Danbury, CT – Trailer Box Project will present the “Trailer Box Project Holiday Extravaganza,” an exhibition of artist-made ornaments displayed within an immersive installation. The exhibit opens on December 3rd, and will close with a holiday party on December 11th. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the Holiday Extravaganza will be donated to Ann’s Place in Danbury, Connecticut.

“Trailer Box Project selected Ann’s Place as their mission is dear to our hearts,” explains Dana Walker, Director of Trailer Box Project. “Trailer Box Project believes that the assistance that Ann's Place offers to individuals and families dealing with cancer are an enormous service to the community, and we are honored to support them.”

Trailer Box Project, a project space and gallery in Danbury, Connecticut is dedicated to assisting groundbreaking artists in sharing their concepts with the public. Sculptor Jim Felice founded the project to foster an environment of generosity, both for the artists that exhibit there and for the surrounding community.

Ann’s Place, a compassionate non-profit serving Connecticut and Hudson Valley, provides people dealing with cancer and their families with counseling, support groups, wellness activities, and educational resources. There is absolutely no charge for the use of their facility and services.

Danbury High School Artists Exhibit at Trailer Box Project by Dana Walker
Opening Reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, May 28th

Danbury, CT – Trailer Box Project is pleased to present an exhibition of artwork by the National Arts Honors Society students at Danbury High School. The exhibit features works inspired by found objects and will run through June 11th.

Award-winning sculptor and Trailer Box Project founder Jim Felice challenged the NAHS students to utilizes various objects from his sculpture studio to create works of art during his speech at the Arts Honors Society induction ceremony in January. Each of the 80 inductees were presented with blocks of wood, metal scraps, and various other industrial objects to act as a catalyst to their creative process. The May 28th exhibition will be a celebration of their artistic accomplishments.

“Many Danbury High School students are unable to take art classes because of scheduling conflicts,” explains NAHS member Gabby Cardoso, “The National Art Honors Society gives us the opportunity to express ourselves creatively, and is an outlet for our artistic talents.”

Three Artists to Exhibit at Trailer Box Project
Opening Reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, April 9th

Danbury, CT – Trailer Box Project will unveil a new exhibit, “Three Artists,” with an opening reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, April 9th. The new show coincides with the reveal of Trailer Box Project’s new onsite exhibition space, and will feature works by local artists. The exhibit will run through May 7th.

“Each of the artists selected for this exhibition have very different aesthetic sensibilities,” says Dana Walker, Director of Trailer Box Project, “From observations of light and space to social commentary, the three voices in this exhibition speak from noticeably different viewpoints, yet experiencing them together results in an unexpected harmony.”

Sculptor Bob Keating’s abstract works often explore humanity’s relationship with the environment. Heavily influenced by shapes and designs found in nature, Keating uses white quartz, steel, wood and concrete to create organic forms that are rich with sensitivity. Keating’s award-winning sculptures have been exhibited throughout the Northeast and can be found in public and private collections throughout the country.

Painter Megan Marden’s new series of still life paintings are an investigation of her own small Danbury studio. At once highly personal and easily relatable, Marden’s works explore light and space with a quirky sensibility and an earnest nod to painting’s history. Marden earned her M.F.A. at Western Connecticut State University, and has exhibited her work in Connecticut and New York. In 2014 she was named a “Top Up and Coming Visual Artist” by CBS Connecticut.

Finally, artist Rita Valley utilizes a wide range of mediums to engage in social discourse. Valley’s collages, artist books, and fabric text pieces expose the ills of modern society -- from economic inequality to the media’s impact on body image -- with a wry wit and keen comprehension of color, pattern and texture. Valley’s works are included in a variety of public collections, including Yale University, Stanford University, and The National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Trailer Box Project seeks participants to create hybrid monsters
“Chimera” Opening Reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, March 19th

Danbury, CT – Trailer Box Project will introduce “Chimera,” a new interactive solo exhibition
by Bethel artist Honorah O’Neill. The handsome exhibit, featuring life sized creatures with mix
and match parts, begins with an opening reception at 5:00pm on Saturday, March 19th, and will
run through March 26th.

“As an artist, Honorah O’Neill often utilizes her anthropological background to bring fables and
folktales to life,” says Dana Walker, Director of Trailer Box Project. “For her upcoming
installation, O’Neill has harnessed the mythological Chimera of ancient Greece, a monstrous
creature composed of the parts of more than one animal. Combined with her love for the natural
world and a wry wit, the resulting sculptures are playful and humorous.”

Honorah O’Neill, a painter and sculptor, studied at Ohio Wesleyan University and earned her
degree in anthropology. The owner of the Bethel Rainy Day Paperback Exchange bookstore,
O’Neill has exhibited her works throughout Connecticut and has amassed a following in the
greater Danbury area. Her installation for Trailer Box Project will include animals such as a
Bernese Mountain Dog, giant anteater and velociraptor dressed in a variety of costumes, from
Girl Scout to doctor. Each creature is made up of separate parts that can be switched with other
animals to make all new, imaginative hybrids.

A peek inside the Danbury studio of artist Megan Marden

Visiting Trailer Box Project artist Megan Marden's sunny and colorful studio in the heart of downtown Danbury is like stepping into one of her gorgeous still-life paintings. Her toy dinosaurs watch quietly from a shelf, peeking between bottles of gesso. A human skull replica rests upon her desk beside a deftly selected color palette. Her slick, fire-engine red piano sits beneath quirky wall hangings from the nearby Asian market. But the most familiar thing in her studio is the light.

"I'm so conflicted as to whether I should work on it more or not," says Marden in reference to a painting in process. "I'm afraid of losing the light!" Marden spends a lot of her process investigating and understanding the surrounding space, often taking months to complete a painting. They are re-drawn, re-organized, and see numerous changes in color and light. “I think of paint as a sculpture source,” she said, explaining that light and spaces are very important to her work.

One of Marden's most well known series is a collection of beautifully textured and abstracted paintings of toy dinosaurs. “I was fascinated by [the dinosaurs] color and texture and started painting them,” said the up-and-coming Connecticut artist. Her most recent work, which will be on view at Trailer Box Project this April, focuses on small spaces. The work is observational and ranges from small to medium in size. However, even as her work continues to evolve, dinosaurs are still evident on her canvases.

Marden often paints on Masonite prepared with 4-6 layers of gesso, and a toned ground. She prepares her canvases the same way, making her starting surface very smooth and hard, so that each paint stroke sits on top of it. Marden uses thick and thin paint, and a variety of oil and alkyd mediums to create diversity in texture and luminosity.

Marden, an award-winning painter, earned her M.F.A. at Western Connecticut State University 2012. Over the past four years she has exhibited her work in Connecticut and New York, including exhibitions at the UConn Stamford Art Gallery, The Arts Council of New Haven, Trinity College, and Blue Mountain Gallery in New York City. She is the recipient of painting awards from The Washington Art Association and Western Connecticut State University. In 2014 she was named a “Top Up and Coming Visual Artist” by CBS Connecticut.

Megan Marden’s paintings of interior spaces merge sensitive observation and an earnest nod to painting’s history with a quirky, personal sensibility. “I want each painting to be an accurate reflection of my own experiences while creating it – I try to create paintings that are honest, vulnerable, and contain a character beyond the visual,” she says of her work.

Works by Megan Marden will be on view at Trailer Box Project starting April 9th and will run through May 7th. It's an exhibition not to be missed!

New sculpture

I'd like to tell you what the motivation is that underlies this sculpture. I'm motivated by the fact that humans and their pets are always seeking shelter and trying to keep it. Most of us are somehow protecting ourselves under a roof of some kind. We will do what it takes to secure that position. If that position is challenged in some way we will usually react to stabilize the situation with greater or lesser success. This is the basic underling premise I have in guiding me through the process of creating this sculpture.

The details haven't been decided yet but by making this roughed out image I'll get a better idea how it is progressing. Sometimes not standing right next to something I'm very involved with is a good thing. It brings perspective and a more dispassionate view.

The walls of these small houses move if it's windy. They're made of aluminum and go clack -clack -clack - in a kind of pathetic and vulnerable way. It's not to say that the people that would inhabit the houses are pathetic; but this is a way for me to point to the temporality of our time on earth.

These little houses are temples of a sort to point out we do care for our best in life even though it ends for each of us. I'm touched by everyone trying to maintain the little temples we call home.
